Byzantine Binding

This full-leather binding was done in the traditional Byzantine binding style, with the text block sewn in a simple linkstitch and attached to wooden boards. The boards are covered in Nigerian goatskin and blind-tooled; braided leather straps with brass clasps keep the book closed. Amazingly, the sewn double endbands were the most time consuming aspect of the binding! Made in the Spring of 2006 from 80lb Mohawk textweight paper, Nigerian goatskin, cedar boards, linen thread, brass clasps.
