Case Bindings

A variety of case constructions to choose between, including the Flatback, Pamphlet case, German-lapped variation, French Groove, and Tight Joint. The cases may be covered in full-paper, full-cloth, half-cloth, or quarter-cloth, with cloth or leather endbands and, of course, hand-made pastepaper or other decorative papers. In any variation, however, the textblock is prepared separately from the case.

Once the textblock is sewn, rounded and backed with spine linings, etc, it can be "cased into" or glued into the cover. Case bindings may also be known as edition bindings, and this separation of labor between textblock preparation and case construction is very beneficial to bookbinders working with letterpress printers (while waiting for a manuscript to be printed, the binder may go ahead and prepare the cases).

Case bindings vary in price depending on materials used and labor time, but usually are priced between $22-$45. If you are interested in one of the books you see here, or would like something similar, please email me at amypirkle@perkolatorpress.com for more information.
